Psychotherapist
Counsellor In Bedford, Olney, Milton Keynes, Northampton

Hello I’m Jacoba. Welcome to my site. I am a qualified psychodynamic therapist working in the Buckinghamshire area with adults and with children from the age of 11.

I can offer face to face sessions in Bedford and Olney or online video/telephone sessions depending
on your needs and location.

Finding a counsellor that you are able to connect with and feel you can trust, is an important step when starting therapy. Take a further look at what I offer and if you feel I might be able to help you, do get in touch. I would love to hear from you.

About Me.

I was inspired through my own positive experience of counselling and from a desire to help others, to retrain as a psychotherapist. I completed my degree in Psychology in 2007 and after a 15 year period of study and involvement in counselling I became a qualified/registered psychotherapist.

Most people come into counselling to try and resolve something that is preventing them from living a full and satisfying life. It could be the diagnosis of an illness, or the loss of a friend or relative. You may have lost your job or perhaps you are struggling with infertility or post natal depression.

I believe that we all have a natural instinct to lead a healthy, happy and fulfilling life, but sometimes events and situations can be barriers that stand in the way of accessing our true potential. When feeling overwhelmed or when faced with challenge and trauma or recurring life events, taking the time out during the week to explore, reflect and acknowledge your feelings can be the first step to better mental health and an important part of looking after yourself.

My core training is in psychodynamic counselling which focuses on the importance of the unconscious, and the way that our past experience, deeply rooted trauma or learned behaviour from childhood, can shape our thoughts, feelings and behaviour in the present.

Psychotherapy encourages and supports you to explore and unravel the experiences of your past, as well as to recognise dysfunctional or defensive patterns of behaviour, which might be influencing the way you feel and behave day to day. This deeper level of self awareness allows you to reflect and ‘let go’ of feelings that may be holding you back.

I feel it is important to focus on personal growth and to build personal resilience, to give you the internal psychological tools that you can use going forward, to resolve problems and pursue goals that are meaningful to you.

The aim of my private practice is to listen to you and build up a working relationship that is based on trust, confidentiality and respect.

The decision to seek help is a brave one and its important to find a therapist that has the right skills and approach that suits you, and that you come away feeling supported and not alone. I work at your pace in a non-judgemental and empathetic way.

Therapy might not make problems go away but you will find it easier to cope with them. Clients are empowered to own the parts of themselves in conflict, develop increased capacity to manage challenges, and feel a greater sense of life meaning, purpose and value. The effects can be long lasting.

Do contact me if you would like to make an appointment to discuss your counselling needs. I can offer an initial free 15 minute telephone consultation. This will give you the opportunity to ask any questions you might have and to explore whether you feel we can work together.
